Obviously in Covid times, we talk about economic growth slowing down, but do we in parallel realize also that growth cannot be indefinite? And it cannot be unlimited?
Nature has a carrying capacity; material production and human development has to happen in a way that is balanced and sustainable (as trite as it may sound).
But even when talking about economic growth, there has always ever been only the North which has dominated the space by means of violent force, subversion, counterinsurgencies, controlling market forces, working the propaganda machines, laying out embargoes, mobilizing capital to the outside, moving production offshore, bidding down wages both locally and internationally. It only has ever tried to establish one thing — The wealthy rulers will create the rules and everyone else subordinates.
The North will establish the means by which wealth will move upwardly to the hands of a small percentage of elite investors, through the transnational corporations nexus, which the State represents. In doing so, it creates massive wealth inequalities wherein the Public is both taught to be obedient and insulated from government policy. Liberty applies as far it doesn’t interefere with business. Think examples like NAFTA, the fact that workers cannot unionise, etc.
Whilst crushing the local working class, and when the rest of the world inevitably chooses to embrace the North’s ideology and subordinates to it, the living standards of the international working class are effectively lowered; left to endure repressive wage slavery conditions, while the international elites get rewarded for being good managers, creating inequality and class conflict.
A world in which growth comes only to the few in the top, at great social and environmental costs, with no scope for emancipation of the individual – who could otherwise be pursuing knowledge and realizing the potential within themself.
